Homework is set for reception and year one children every Friday. Homework for reception children usually consists of a set of sounds and words which they have learnt in their phonics lessons that week. These should be used as a quick, fun game a few times a week to underpin their learning in school and enhance their reading and writing development.
Year one children's homework may consist of a maths, writing or topic related task. These will be fun and should provide an excellent opportunity for dialogue between you and your child regarding their learning journey. Year one children also have key spellings to practice each week. These support their phonic development and need to be practiced every day.
Children will choose a book from our school reading scheme and a story book from our class library to share with you at home each week. I recommend that children spend around 10-15 minutes reading at home each day. Children will also read with a member of the Chestnut Class team at least once a week. Children will change their books every Friday.
Reception children will begin to receive reading books as their knowledge of phonics and blending develops during the first term.
