Cockshutt CE Primary School & Nursery

Autumn 2019

Year 3/4 Gymnastics Festival

Our Y3/4 Gymnastic team had a wonderful afternoon yesterday at Lakelands Academy participating in the Oswestry/Ellesmere L1 cluster competition.  They all performed a floor and vault routine that they have learnt in school resulting in them being placed in 6th position out of 13 teams; this was a great achievement for their first time ever competing at a gymnastics competition.  They were all able to demonstrate lots of balances and movements that they have only recently learnt and this result highlights their determination and hard work. Congratulations!

Give It A Go Festival!

Six children went to the Give It A Go Festival at Shrewsbury Sports Village.  The aim of the day was for the children to access different sports and activities; they had the opportunity to ride trikes and tandem trikes, play basketball and New Age Kurling, - judging by their huge smiles when they returned, they all had an amazing time!

Many congratulations to Luke who has been selected to play football for the U11 North Shropshire Schools District to represent North Shropshire against the other Districts. We wish you every success!

Quicksticks Hockey Tournament

Cockshutt were back at The Marches School for another Hockey (B) tournament.  The team played some incredible matches with the children showing amazing determination and teamwork on the pitch which meant they finished in 2nd place in the Trophy final having played 6 tough matches.

Jo, from Fit4Kids came into school today to teach the children about healthy eating and how to stay fit. From Nursery to Year 6 the children have been taught about healthy foods and those that are not as healthy. They looked at food labels and identified what they mean and worked out nutritional values. They were surprised by the amount of sugar in some of them! The day has helped them to understand how to eat healthily and the importance of exercise, they all now know some simple exercises. Everyone has really enjoyed taking part today..

A team of 6 children played in the Quicksticks Hockey Tournament at The Marches School. The matches were fast and furious, the team displayed great teamwork and determination to finish in 3rd place in their final having narrowly coming 2nd in the first round. Great effort from everyone!

Well done to the Tag Rugby team who, today, achieved 2nd place in the Level 1 competition which was held at Oswestry Rugby Club. They played 5 great games showing teamwork and perseverance, narrowly missing 1st place by 1 try, they will now be going through to the Level 2 competition.

The Sports Leaders have enjoyed unpacking the equipment that they have chosen for indoor and outdoor use. They made an excellent job of sourcing and listing items that they thought would be used and enjoyed by all the children throughout the school which will help to encourage every child to be active.

The new climbing and gymnastics equipment has been tried out and enjoyed by Ash class. It will be a great asset to the school because it means that the children can still be active on those days when we are unable to have PE outside.

Cockshutt children enjoyed an afternoon of sport this week. Years 2,3,4,5 and 6 all took part in an Intra school Tag Rugby competition competing against one another. They had a great time and it was wonderful to see the older children helping and encouraging the younger children. Thank you to the Sports Leaders for their help in arranging the competition.

Sports Leaders 2019/20 have been elected and have already begun by leading the whole school daily Playground Fitness sessions. Throughout the year they will also be helping to lead activities within the school and through regular meetings they are able to represent the pupils who may have ideas or requests for equipment.

The first of four cross country events took place on the 9th October at The Marches School. We had a team of 7 children who ran brilliantly in their age categories, their scores will be going forward towards the final result after the fourth competition in May. Well done everybody!

Cockshutt CE Primary School began the new School Games year by competing at the Marches School in the New Age Kurling inter school competition. The team of 4 played some amazing games resulting in them winning their pool and going on to compete for the trophy in the final. Their final finishing position was 3rd overall which was a tremendous achievement for their first experience of this new sport. Well done everyone!
