The children in Chestnut class have been really enjoying the tyres and transporting them around. We came up with the idea to develop our fine motor skills by tying ropes to the tyres and then our gross motor skills to pull the tyres back! Sometimes with a passenger in!
In art today we looked at collage and came up with the idea of creating a superhero collage! We talked about how to ensure the pieces we chose fit like a jigsaw puzzle so we could still see the outline of the lovely drawing we were making. It was tricky to make the paper fit the shapes we had drawn but out ninja turtle, autumn superhero is really taking shape!
The children have been very keen to keep fit this week and have built their own gym! They have lifted weights, jumped on the trampoline and really enjoyed the tyres!
In maths we have been focusing upon the numbers from 1-6. We have been looking at formations of what these numbers look like in different ways. For example as a numeral, counting to make towers, numicon and dice patterns. Year one have also been comparing numbers closely by using number lines and the language greater and less than.
In art we have been looking at how music can make us create lines in different ways. We listened to various different types of music and discussed how they made us feel and how this was then represented through our lines.
In science we have been looking at the human body. We have created our own life size body and filled it up with the organs in our body. We learnt about each organ and what they do for us!
This week we have been looking at finger painting in our creative session. We mixed colours using only the primary colours we had available and then we made finger paintings looking at abstract finger painting and figurative finger painting too.
After picking all of the lovely damsons in forest school we made apple and damson crumbles. We peeled, chopped and stewed the fruit and then used our fine motor skills to rub together the flour and sugar to make the lovely crumble topping! It was tasty!
We made a strong start to the term with a very muddy afternoon in the forest. We explored a story about a tiny little acorn, went on an acorn hunt, found oak trees and then made huge muddy puddles. Along the way we saw the damson tree had so much fruit! We picked the fruit and are going to make a crumble!
