Cockshutt CE Primary School & Nursery

Heritage

We know that the village of Cockshutt has a rich heritage.  We work with the children in our care to learn about those people from the past, who have helped to shape the village into the welcoming place it is today.  Every person has a unique role to play in the world.  We want our children to have a strong sense of identity and know that,  no matter where they have come from, they have a home here in Cockshutt School.

Award for Cockshutt

Martin Phillips (Historic England) Visited the school in January 2020 to present the school with a 'Heritage Schools Award'.  He spent some time talking to the children about their current curriculum and study in History.

Martin visited our Celebration Assembly to present the award to the school, we were pleased that many of our parents/carers were there to enjoy the moment with our school community.

"It is a pleasure to present Cockshutt C of E Primary with Historic England's Heritage Schools Award. They have incorporated their local heritage into the history curriculum and are now embedding this across all year groups. Pupils have been telling me about their studies based on Cockshutt, Oswestry and Ellesmere.

Furthermore, Mr Wedley's Year 5 and 6 class completed a condition survey of the village war memorial and researched the soldiers commemorated upon it. They followed this up with a successful application to secure the grade II listing of the Cockshutt War Memorial - the first school in the West Midlands, that I know of, to have achieved this.
