Year One Homework ๐Ÿ“’

Reading

School reading books will be sent home every Monday. Your child needs to come to school with their book bag containing their books and reading records into school every day. Please read with your child every day and record this in your reading record. In your reading record entry, please include the name of the book, how many pages read and anything your child did well or needed help with. This enables us to support them with any targets in school. Similarly, we will share reading target for you to work on at home. We really want reading to be enjoyable for both you and your child. We have found for this to be most successful, it is best to read little and often. I recommend that you spend 10-15 minutes reading with your child each day. A fun way to encourage shared reading is to alternate reading a page to your child and your child reading a page to you. Your child will also bring home a library book every week. This is a book for you to read to your child. Reading to your child supports their development of vocabulary, understanding of the world around them and their comprehension skills.

Maths Whizz

This is part of your weekly homework. Complete at least three progressions a week. Logins will be sent home when the children have all settled back into school life.

Spellings

Spellings will be sent home every Monday for your child to practise reading and writing at home from 1st November. Year One children will have a spelling test of these words every Friday. The spelling book needs to kept in your child's book bag so it is in school for their test.

Reception Homework ๐Ÿ“š

Reading

Every Monday, your child will bring home a book from our school reading scheme and a story book from our class library. You should spend around 10-15 minutes reading at home with your child each day. Try to make this a fun, enjoyable experience to foster a love for reading early on. Initially, your child will bring home a picture book. This is for them to develop their understanding of the structure of stories and improve their vocabulary alongside you at home. It is a great opportunity for you to “scaffold” the use of story language (which supports their comprehension and writing skills), such as “once upon a time”, “suddenly”, “next”. Reception children will begin to receive reading books with words as their knowledge of phonics and blending develops.

Your child needs to come to school with their book bag containing their books and reading records into school every day.
