We had a very special visitor in school this week, Paul Sturgess. He is an ex professional basketball player and holds 2 Guinness world records for being the tallest basketball player in the Uk and for being the tallest actor in the UK.(7ft7)
All the children had a great time learning some basketball skills and asking lots of questions.
Year 3’s had lots of fun whilst learning about the vertices and edges of 3D shapes using marshmallows.
Today we learnt about Bastille day and re-enacted the riots to free the people. We then made our own Eiffel towers.
In maths we have been making 3D shapes thinking about the number of vertices, edges and faces.
For multi cultural week, Ash class are learning all about France. Today we have enjoyed a french colour hunt, word searches , colouring and sang french songs and listened to french music. Mrs Cheesman even brought in her berét.
This week in PE we did some circuit training. We had 1 minute on each station then tried to beat our scores on the second time round. Our circuit included; speed bounce, shuttle run, squats, wall sits and star jumps.

We had lots of fun trying different fruits and describing the taste of them in preparation for making fruit kebabs later in the term. Some we liked and some we didn’t like so much. There were some interesting faces being pulled. We were very impressed that everyone tried all of the fruits.
Using drama to help us think of noun phrases to describe how Grandad and Billy felt in the boat during a storm!

We have had a wonderful celebrating National School Sports Week. Including some yoga, extra time on the daily mile track each day and some circuit training!! The children were full of energy but certainly tired at the end of it!
In science we have been learning about parts and functions of a plant.
In computing we have been learning how to compose our own piece of music.
In Geography this week, we have been exploring famous landmarks around Europe.
Reading for pleasure outside in the willow dome. In Ash class, we have enjoying making the most of the beautiful sunshine. We took our reading for pleasure session outside and the children had a wonderful time sharing stories together and delving into a good book!
In RE this week we have been looking at the book of Luke, chapter 6 verse 37-38. In particular about forgiveness;
“Forgive others, and you will be forgiven”
We had a class discussion about what forgiveness is and then went on a reflection walk to think about times we have forgiven and been forgiven.
We had lots of fun den building down at forest school this week.
We have had a great time learning new skills and games with cricket coach, Lara.
In history this week, we have been ordering the life events of Florence Nightingale in a timeline.
This afternoon, we have been looking at globes and using atlases to find countries in Europe.
We all had lots of fun trying out the Pro strike football today to see how fast we could kick the football in the back of the net. Great effort from everyone!
Our science topic this term is living things and habits so we decided to go on a hunt for micro-habitats down at forest school. We found lots of mini beasts in their homes.
We have been looking at the characteristics of living things and sorting different objects in to groups to decide if they are alive, once alive or never alive.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
