• Learning Through Play – Indoors & Outdoors!

  Our nursery children have been making the most of their day with free access to both indoor and outdoor environments, giving them the opportunity to explore, create and learn in ways that suit them best.

   

  From building imaginative worlds and getting creative with messy play inside, to enjoying fresh air, movement and nature outdoors, every moment is filled with curiosity, discovery and fun. 

   

  This continuous flow between spaces supports the children’s independence, confidence and creativity, allowing them to follow their interests and develop important skills through play-led learning.

   

  We are so proud to see their ideas come to life as they experiment, collaborate and grow in such an engaging and nurturing environment. 

• Exciting Learning Adventure for Chestnut & Oak Classes!

  This week, Chestnut Class and Oak Class had a fantastic trip to Cambrian Heritage Railway as part of their history learning! 

   

  The children had the opportunity to step back in time and explore how railways have shaped our communities. From learning about how trains were used in the past to seeing real locomotives up close, it was an unforgettable experience. 

   

  The visit brought their classroom learning to life, helping them understand the importance of trains in transporting people and goods throughout history. The children asked great questions, showed wonderful curiosity, and represented the school brilliantly throughout the day. 

   

  A big thank you to everyone involved in making this trip possible—it truly helped create lasting memories and inspired our young historians! 

   

  We’re so proud of Chestnut and Oak Classes for their enthusiasm and excellent behaviour! 

   

  

• Sponsored Steps for Stories Success!

  A huge well done to all of our amazing children who took part in our Sponsored Steps for Stories event, organised by our fantastic PTA!

   

  The children had great fun completing laps of the track, collecting letters of the alphabet along the way – combining fitness, teamwork, and learning all in one exciting challenge! 

   

  Thanks to their enthusiasm and your generous support, we are raising money to help provide more books for our school, inspiring a love of reading for everyone. 

   

  A big thank you to the PTA for organising such a creative and fun event, and to all families and friends who sponsored the children and helped make it a success!

• World Cup fever!

  We have started to celebrate the 2026 world cup by exploring the different flags from around the world and have been designing football kits and top trump cards. We had a world cup draw and each child in Ash and Oak have been given a team that is competing. The teacher got to join in as well! A couple of children are in charge of the world cup wall chart and will be updating us on the progress of each time as the competition goes on! In the next few weeks the children will also get to play lots of football and we will be holding our own semi final and final world cup matches!

  

• Exciting News at Cockshutt CE Primary School and Nursery

  We’re so proud to share that our beautiful new log cabin is now complete!

   

  This wonderful space will be used as a sensory outdoor learning area, carefully designed to support calm, wellbeing and hands-on learning for all of our children 

   

  Whether it’s a quiet moment to reflect, a nurturing small-group session, or exploring new ideas through play and creativity, the cabin offers a peaceful and inspiring environment where our pupils can truly thrive 

   

  We can’t wait to start using this amazing space and see all the fantastic experiences it will bring!

  

• Oak Class Update

  Our talented children in Oak Class have been busy developing their 3D drawing skills this week! 🖌️ Using careful observation, they explored how to create the illusion of depth by applying tone and shadow to their work.

   

  By experimenting with light and dark shading, the children learned how to make their drawings look more realistic and bring their artwork to life. It’s been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they practised blending techniques and thinking about where light falls on an object.

   

  We are so proud of their creativity, focus, and fantastic effort—well done, Oak Class! 

  

• Ash Class D&T Project Celebration!

  Well done to all the wonderful children in Ash Class for completing their fantastic Design & Technology project!

   

  The children have worked incredibly hard to design and create their own 3D playgrounds, using their creativity, problem-solving skills, and teamwork to bring their ideas to life. 

   

  It’s been amazing to see their confidence grow as they explored different materials, tested their ideas, and made improvements along the way.

  A big congratulations to Ash Class — you should all feel very proud of your amazing creations! 

  

• Little Chestnut - Learning through play

  Our nursery children have been busy learning through play this week! 

   

  From imaginative role play, to hands-on messy, creative activities, the children have been exploring, creating and developing their confidence and communication skills.

   

  It’s wonderful to see their curiosity, teamwork and creativity shine as they learn through fun and meaningful experiences every day! 

   

  

• Thank You PTA!

  A huge thank you to our fantastic PTA for giving their time and effort to create our new wildlife area. They secured all the materials and worked incredibly hard to make it happen.

   

  The space now includes a nature pond, bug hotel, paths and secure fencing—ready to be enjoyed and explored.

  
  This area will give our pupils valuable opportunities to learn about nature, support wellbeing, and develop a lasting appreciation for the environment.
