Cockshutt CE Primary School & Nursery

Summer 2025

As part of carrers week we visited Rev Gareth at the church to learn all about being a priest. It was great. We learnt all about the different services he leads, the clothes he wears and we even learnt about the eucharist.

We had the careers fair and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! We met the police, a motorbike mechanic, a dog groomer, a nurse and many more. Afterwards we went and completed some writing about what our favourite career was from the fair and why! the Ploice were very popular. I think the car and the outfit helped!

In science we have been investigating trees. We are very blessed to have such a variety of trees on the school grounds that we could go on a fantastic tree hunt. We searched by looking at the shapes and colours of the leaves. Once we had then named each tree we thought carefully about the features of a tree, we looked at the bark, branches, trunk, twigs and roots.

Our trip to Oswestry Fire Station πŸ”₯ We learned all about fire safety and what it takes to have a career as a firefighter πŸ§‘β€πŸš’

We have been learning to use magnifying glasses effectively. We have linked it closely to our science sessions and looked carefully at flowers, roots and stems by looking at potatoes and garlic. We even looked at CiCi the snail and watched her move and slither around!

In science we have been dissecting plants and looking for the roots, leaves, flowers and stems. We labeled them and talked about each part and what the function of each part of the plant is.

We enjoyed celebrating VE Day by making paper spitfires and racing them, cracking morse code and creating our own. We listend to music from the era and made war medals too!
